"The fishing trip in Chiang Mai was one of the highlights of our stay
in Thailand. We travelled across the country for 3 weeks in Feb.
2007 and this was one of the most memorable experiences. My husband
is a keen fisherman and he initiated the trip. I was only supposed
to take pictures and be bored, so I only paid 200 baht. However,
I must say that the day turned out to be really fun and exciting.
We went on a small lake with Suvit, who picked us up from the hotel.
It was only the two of us. Hubby caught the first fish within 10-15
min. of arrival. Couldn’t believe how excited he was. He didn’t
want to let go of it (you have to put them back in the lake). And
then from that point on a fish was on the hook nearly every 15-20
min. And I’m talking about big fishes (from 8 to 25 kg) There were
other people at the lake, but I did not see anyone catch as many
as we did. Suvit said it’s the bait he’s using. After a while he
gave me one of the rods to try and even though I was really sceptical
I did catch about 10 al together and my biggest one weighed nearly
20kg. It felt as if the fish had caught me, not the other way around.
My husband’s biggest catch weighed around 35 kg. It was good exercise
and good fun and the day went really quick. Suvit proved to be really
good at what he does. We read a recommendation for him at the travel
agency where we booked the trip from and it all proved right. We
would recommend this trip to anyone even if you are not so keen
on fishing.
